Return. Relax. Repeat.
At Exmoor Cliff Retreat, our internationally award-winning 5-star adults-only boutique B&B in Lynton, many of our guests return year after year for the peaceful atmosphere, elegant bedrooms, award-winning breakfasts, and sea views stretching across the Bristol Channel.
Perfectly positioned on the edge of Exmoor National Park and just a short walk from the famous Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway, coastal walks, independent cafés, and excellent local restaurants, Exmoor Cliff Retreat has become a favourite escape for guests seeking relaxation, comfort, and a genuinely personal experience beside the North Devon coast.
For some, it’s an annual walking tradition.
For others, a special celebration, seasonal retreat, or simply the chance to slow down and properly switch off for a few days by the sea.
Over the years, many guests have become wonderfully familiar faces – returning season after season to the place they now simply call their “Highcliffe escape.”
Meet "The Fab 4" - Returning For Their 5th Consecutive Year
Few guests capture the spirit of “Return. Relax. Repeat.” quite like Rachel, Steve, Pam, and Wendy – affectionately known here as “The Fab 4.”
Now returning for their fifth consecutive year, their annual Exmoor Cliff Retreat escape has become a treasured tradition built around sea air, long Exmoor walks, award-winning breakfasts, laughter-filled evenings, and the wonderfully relaxed rhythm of life in Lynton & Lynmouth.
Their visits often coincide with favourite local events including the Lyn Valley Classic and the delightfully eccentric Steampunk Festival hosted by the famous Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway – adding even more atmosphere and character to every stay.
Like many of our returning guests, they’ve fallen in love with the slower pace of North Devon, the dramatic Exmoor coastline, and the calm adults-only atmosphere that makes Exmoor Cliff Retreat feel so different from larger hotels and busier resorts.
In fact, before leaving this year, their 2026 return was already secured.
That kind of loyalty never goes unnoticed.

Michael & Malwina - Breathe In. Hike Out. Return Again.
Originally from Poland and now happily settled in the UK, Michael and Malwina have completely fallen in love with Exmoor National Park, the dramatic North Devon coastline, and the sense of freedom that comes from exploring it all on foot.
For them, Exmoor Cliff Retreat has become the perfect place to pause, recharge, and reconnect with nature. From peaceful mornings overlooking the Bristol Channel to full days spent discovering coastal paths, hidden valleys, woodland trails, and spectacular viewpoints, every visit is centred around slowing down and embracing the beauty of Exmoor.
Like many returning guests, they’re drawn back by the calm adults-only atmosphere, elegant surroundings, award-winning breakfasts, and the restorative rhythm of life beside the sea.
Their approach to Exmoor Cliff Retreat is beautifully simple:
Relax. Recharge. Return.
Andreas & Fabian - From Hanover To Highcliffe
Returning from Hanover, Germany, Andreas and Fabian have become wonderfully familiar faces at Exmoor Cliff Retreat – combining their love of Exmoor adventures with a shared appreciation for beautiful surroundings, thoughtful hospitality, and the finer things in life.
Passionate walkers and enthusiastic explorers of North Devon, they return year after year for dramatic coastal scenery, fresh sea air, peaceful stays, and relaxed mornings overlooking the coastline before heading out for another day on Exmoor.
This year’s visit also included a memorable side trip to Highclere Castle – famously known as the setting for Downton Abbey. With Robert and Richard having recently visited too, conversations quickly turned to favourite scenes, grand interiors, afternoon tea, and admiration for one particularly iconic staircase.
But perhaps the biggest surprise came from a shared fascination with elegant china, classic crockery, and beautifully curated interiors — leading to wonderfully animated conversations about treasured finds and the latest Royal Doulton additions here at Exmoor Cliff Retreat.
Guests like Andreas and Fabian perfectly reflect what Exmoor Cliff Retreat is all about – warmth, curiosity, personality, and the simple joy of returning somewhere that feels both familiar and welcoming.

Anni & Flon - The Heartbeat Of Highcliffe
Some guests quietly become part of the wider story of Exmoor Cliff Retreat itself – and few embody that more naturally than Anni and Flon.
Returning to Lynton & Lynmouth long before Robert and Richard arrived, this much-loved pair have made annual stays beside the Exmoor coast part of their lives for many years – bringing warmth, laughter, individuality, and unmistakable energy with them every single time.
Their yearly road trip from Lancashire has become something of a tradition in itself – arriving just in time to reconnect with favourite places, familiar faces, fresh Exmoor air, and the slower pace of life that makes this corner of North Devon feel so special.
Over the years, they’ve become wonderfully well known throughout the twin towns – always ready with a smile, a conversation, and genuine affection for the local businesses and people who help make the area feel like home.
For us, they represent everything we love about “Return. Relax. Repeat.”
Loyal, full of life, endlessly kind – and now very much part of the wider Highcliffe story.
Paul & Julie - Glamour, Laughter & Exmoor Escapes
Paul and Julie from the West Midlands are two of our wonderfully familiar returning guests – bringing warmth, humour, elegance, and just the right amount of sparkle to Exmoor Cliff Retreat with every visit.
Drawn back time and again by the sea views, peaceful atmosphere, award-winning breakfasts, and relaxed pace of life here in Lynton, they perfectly capture the spirit of slowing down and properly switching off for a few days beside the Exmoor coast.
Whether enjoying a Devon gin in the Drawing Room, heading out to explore Exmoor National Park, or lingering over breakfast with views stretching across the Bristol Channel, their stays are always filled with laughter, stories, and wonderfully easy-going conversation.
Stylish, sociable, and always a joy to welcome back, Paul and Julie have become a much-loved part of the extended Exmoor Cliff Retreat family.

Julie & Stuart - "Highcliffe Is Our Happy Place"
Returning guests since 2019 — even before Robert and Richard arrived – Julie and Stuart from Evesham have built a long-standing connection with both Exmoor Cliff Retreat and the twin towns of Lynton & Lynmouth.
Their visits have become a treasured tradition centred around peaceful stays, sea views, favourite cafés, relaxed breakfasts, and the gentler pace of life that continues to draw them back to North Devon year after year.
Their favourite retreat remains the Summerhouse Room, loved for its stunning coastal views, calming atmosphere, and complete sense of switch-off from everyday life.
And before one visit ends, the next is usually already being planned.
In fact, their 2026 return stay is already booked.
For guests like Julie and Stuart, Exmoor Cliff Retreat has become far more than just a luxury adults-only place to stay on the Exmoor coast. It’s familiar, comforting, and filled with happy memories.
Martin & Heather - Four Years. Countless Visits. One Favourite Escape.
Martin and Heather have become a genuine part of the Exmoor Cliff Retreat story – returning twice each season for the past four years and bringing their warmth, enthusiasm, and unmistakable smiles with them every single time.
Passionate lovers of Exmoor National Park, they’ve explored countless coastal walks, scenic drives, hidden viewpoints, and favourite dining spots across North Devon – becoming true experts on the area along the way.
Their visits now feel less like guest stays and more like the return of familiar friends – filled with relaxed conversation, shared stories over breakfast, laughter in the conservatory, and the easy-going atmosphere that defines so much of life at Exmoor Cliff Retreat.
They perfectly capture what “Return. Relax. Repeat.” means to so many of our guests:
a place to slow down, recharge, and reconnect with somewhere that simply feels right.
Quite simply, they’re exactly the kind of guests Exmoor Cliff Retreat was made for.

More Than Just A Stay
Over the years, many guests arrive at Exmoor Cliff Retreat for the first time simply looking for a relaxing coastal escape beside Exmoor National Park – and quietly return again and again.
For some, it’s the walking.
For others, it’s the sea views across the Bristol Channel, award-winning breakfasts, peaceful adults-only atmosphere, elegant bedrooms, or the feeling of completely switching off for a few days on the North Devon coast.
Whatever the reason, one thing happens remarkably often here:
People come back.
Because while there are many beautiful places to stay in Devon, very few become part of people’s traditions.
At Exmoor Cliff Retreat, returning guests are part of the story – and we never take that for granted.
